Fg Off D.E. Till |
Built-up area – Flown in support of Operation THUNDERCLAP. Load: D, F, H, M, N, P, X, Y: 1x4000lb ‘Cookie’ and 1170x 4lb incendiaries. Derek Till: 'A week later we were depressed to discover that Chemnitz was again the target - this time the trip took 9 hours 15 minutes, my longest. Although the target was not heavily defended and it was getting towards the end of the war (although we didn't know it at the time), the long flight was grueling, the danger of night fighter attacks still present, and it was hard for us to stay sharp over such a long period.' All other aircraft: 1x 2000lb bomb and 1650x 4lb incendiaries. |
