PERSONAL INFORMATION |
Details |
Albert Henry Young was born on 31 October 1918 in Sevenoaks, Kent. His first marriage resulted in two daughters, and he had 5 children by his second. He acquired the nickname of 'Crasher' and/or 'Pranger' having allegedly crashed seven aircraft, and became a member of the Caterpillar Club. This has to be confirmed. His DFC was Gazetted on 17 October 1944, page 4751 'in recognition of gallantry and devotion to duty in the execution of air operations' while serving with 576 Squadron. Following his retirement from the RAF, he continued to work in Australia where he had settled as a civilian trials controller at the Woomera rocket range and testing facility. Bert passed away in 18 April 1973, in Perth, WA. |
