Douglas 'Keith' Edington Anderson was born on 20 October 1923 in Campsie, New South Wales, son of John and Maud Anderson. He had two siblings, Ron and Joyce. Prior to enlisting, Douglas was a student teacher. He married Agatha Mary Gardiner at St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney, and they had two children, Don, b.1949 and Peter, b.1953..
