V1 Launching Site. Aircraft failed to return, having exploded in mid-air. It came down in a flooded area on the coast at Ambleteuse between Boulogne and Cap Griz Nez, the tail falling in a field. Flt Lt Bibby and Fg Off Armstrong were the only survivors and were taken POW. Allen and Duerr are buried at Calais Southern Cemetery, Maiden at Marquise Community Cemetery, and Johnston and Backler at the Calais Canadian War Cemetery in Leubringhen. |
